Editing is where the footage becomes a story.
— where performance, image, and sound get their order, their rhythm, and their meaning. It’s the last craft to touch the work, and the one that decides what the work is. I got my start in development. Producer Susan Terrell brought me in and I learned the craft from her and her editing team by cutting sizzle reels for documentary and unscripted projects. From there, sizzles turned into trailers, trailers into documentary and scripted shorts, and I am now looking to take on scripted features and documentaries.
I started in post-production and moved into production to learn the whole pipeline: how a shoot is planned, how footage is captured and handed off, and what an editor actually needs from the field. Along the way, I’ve worked as a production assistant, an associate producer, and a co-producer. As a producer, I make small time sketch comedy. On set, I learned the parts of the process you can't see from the edit bay — how departments communicate, how a day gets built around light, locations, talent, and time, and how fast a plan has to change when reality shows up. Those days made me a better editor: I know where footage comes from, what it costs to get, and how choices made on set echo all the way into post. The set taught me what the edit bay never could — and I love the work.

Set instinct.
Edit discipline.
I’m Adam de Lucia, a Los Angeles editor and production worker. My work lives on both sides of the process — the edit bay and the set — and each side has made me better at the other. Editing taught me story, rhythm, and restraint. Production taught me urgency, trust, and what a day actually costs in time, light, and people. That’s the headline on this page: set instinct, edit discipline.
Across both sides, the work has run from development rooms to documentary, branded, live-event, and narrative projects — and onto major productions like The Pitt and St. Denis Medical, plus several other network shows, in uncredited positions.
Performance sharpens the editorial eye. Timing, truth, and listening — the instincts that make a moment play — are the ones I bring to every cut and every set.
